COVID-19 - A public statement from Public Libraries Victoria

March 16, 2020

Public libraries provide a vital community service across Victoria and we know that, during difficult times, many people turn to their local library for support and a sense of community.

However, in light of the spread of COVID-19, some of our library branches have elected to close or cancel programs and events, in order to reduce the risk to library users and staff.

You can keep up to date with your local library’s news by visiting their website and also through social media.

Please help us reduce the risk of COVID-19 by:

  • Hanging on to your books if you’re sick rather than coming to the library – just call your local library to arrange a renewal or extension

  • Returning your books via the “after hours” chutes

  • Accessing library resources such as eBooks via your library’s website

  • Placing ‘holds’ using your library’s catalogue or app, so you can come in and collect your books quickly

  • Borrowing lots at once to reduce the number of times you need to visit us.

And, please do not visit your library if you:

  • are feeling unwell;

  • have returned from overseas in the last 14 days;

  • have had any contact with a known positive case of COVID-19, or a person who is under quarantine or self-isolation awaiting confirmation testing in the last 14 days; or

  • you have been confirmed as having COVID-19.

Thank you for your understanding.
