Adult Literacy – Victorian public libraries in action

November 30, 2016

Last Thursday we launched a new report Adult Literacy – Victorian public libraries in action at a seminar and roundtable discussion at the State Library.  All hard copies of the report were taken by attendees. We will print more and post at least one to every Victorian public library service. In the meantime, you can download the report from the State Library website:https://www.slv.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/Reading-and-literacy-for-all-adult-literacy-libraries_0.pdf

One of the aims of the seminar was to provide inspiration for attendees to apply for funding under a new grants program supporting innovative adult literacy projects in Victorian public libraries.  A total of $90,000 has been allocated to this grants program. The maximum grant a library service can apply for is $30,000 (exc. GST). There is no lower limit; submissions for smaller amounts are welcomed and will be considered.  If your library service is wanting to do more to improve adult literacy levels in your community, this grants program could be the catalyst and enabler.    Please find attached the grant guidelines.  The closing date for applications is 4pm on Friday 16 December 2016.  If you have any queries please contact Robyn Ellard 8664 7425 or email rellard@slv.vic.gov.au

The seminar, roundtable discussion, the report and the grants program are all part of the READ initiative in the 2014-17 Statewide Public Library Development Projects, a collaboration of the State Library and Public Libraries Victoria Network.
